Bike Week 2002 in Tower Hamlets
15-23 June 2002
Below are the events to be held by Tower Hamlets Wheelers during this year's Bike Week.
As always we are looking for more volunteers to help out organising before and/or during the events - let us know if you'd like to help out!

The Great Beigel Challenge |
Island Gardens to the Sundial Centre, Shipton Street.
The Beigel Race returns! A fun race between various modes of transport highlighting the need for integrated transport systems. Let us know if you want to enter, especially if you have a more unusual transport alternative. In the past we have had a horse & cart, the Mayor in his limo, rickshaws and disability mobility buses taking part as well as cyclists and public transport users. Entry must be pre-booked.

Meet at Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel Road (opposite Whitechapel tube station).

A repeat of our count in January to obtain comparable summer data. Contact us if you can spare half an hour helping out collecting this important information at this nightmare junction. |

Ecology Centre, Mile End Park, north end.
Traditional Bike Week event across London - call in on your way to work for some free breakfast and to meet your fellow Tower Hamlets commuters. |

Pop Music Trivia Tour |
Meet at Mile End tube station.
"Let us take you by the hand and lead you through the streets of Tower Hamlets", discovering pop music connections you never suspected. Ending in a pub with a juke box. Booking required if you would like a souvenir of the trip (with donation); otherwise just turn up. |

Midsummer Madness Ride |
Meet at Beigel Bake, Brick Lane.
Ride to Primrose Hill to watch the sun come up on the longest day. We will first ride to Soho to meet up with cyclists from all over the capital before heading up to Primrose Hill before sunrise at 4.43am. |

Bridges Ride |
Meet at Tower Bridge, south end.
Join Lambeth, Southwark, Westminster cyclists and hopefully many more in ride east across the bridges of central London. This initial fun ride will mark the start of a "bridges campaign" to improve the junctions at either end of most London bridges. |

Family Cycling Fun Day |
Victoria Park (Royal Gate East, Grove Road, near Royal Inn on the Park pub.)
End Bike Week by joining Tower Hamlets cyclists for a picnic lunch. There will be a Dr Bike stand so you can get your bike tuned, an obstacle course to test your bike handling skills, slow bicycle races and lots more. Later in the afternoon you can join in a ride down to Greenwich Park to meet up with Greenwich cyclists at their teatime cycling picnic. |
