Bike Week 2003 in Tower Hamlets

Below are the events to be held by Tower Hamlets Wheelers during this year's Bike Week. More details will be added as the arrangements progress so be sure to revisit this page for updates.
As well as welcoming all to come along and join in the fun, we are always looking for more volunteers to help organising before and/or during the events - have a look at our Bike Week activities list.

Family Cycling Fun Day
Victoria Park (Crown Gate East, Grove Road, off roundabout, opposite Crown pub)

Start Bike Week with the 2nd Wheelers Cycling Fun Day. There will be Bo the cycling clown, rickshaw rides, Dr Bike stand so you can get your bike tuned, an obstacle course to test your bike handling skills, slow bicycle races, security bike marking and more.
FREE cycle training will be available which must be pre-booked, see below.

FREE Cycle Training Sessions

From beginners to those wanting to improve their road skills, receive FREE professional cycle training. You must pre-book to attend one of these sessions.
Training will be provided by a professional company and you will be allocated a session time based on your ability.

Easy canal and riverside ride to the Eastway Cycling Fun Day (see below).

Eastway Cycling Day
Eastway Cycle Circuit, Quarter Mile Lane, London E10

Eastway is a traffic free dedicated cycle circuit. The day's events will include buddied rides around the circuit for those who just want to have a go, rides around the mountain bike circuit, one mile dash time trial for all ages, cycle obstacle course, slow bike races. At 2pm there will be a panel discussion on "Transport issues in the East End". There will also be a Dr Bike, barbecue, local food stalls and Bo the cycling clown will be there too.

Discover the full potential of pedal-power with the Company of Cyclists. A wide range of stunning bikes, representing the best of conventional design, with some more specialised machines to fire the imagination will be available to try out.

The Good, Bad & the Advanced Stop Line

Cyclists, pedestrians and the disabled, are they all included when transport officers plan traffic schemes? We take you on an informative tour of some examples in and around the borough highlighting the good and the bad.

Traditional Bike Week event across London - stop by on your way to work and enjoy some free breakfast. Meet with your fellow Tower Hamlets commuters, councillors and council transport officers.

A tour of the many parts of Tower Hamlets used as film locations. Rated PG.

Discover your local amenities as we ride round what the borough has to offer; swimming pools, cinemas, parks, libraries, museums etc.

Midsummer Madness Ride

Ride to Primrose Hill to watch the sun come up on the longest day. We will first ride to Soho to meet up with cyclists from all over the capital before heading up to Primrose Hill to watch the sunrise at 4.43am.

The Great Beigel Race

The famous fun challenge between different modes of transport travelling across the borough whilst carrying the precious beigel cargo. Let us know if you would like to enter, especially if you have a more unusual transport alternative. In the past we have had a horse & cart, the Mayor in his limo, DHL quad-cycles, rickshaws and disability mobility buses taking part as well as cyclists and public transport users.

Pedalling Picnic: Mile End Park to Greenwich Park to Victoria Park

In association with Sustrans. Easy ride ride down south to the Observatory at Greenwich Park to rendezvous with cyclists coming from the south. After taking in the panorama we will all ride an easy pace up to Victoria Park mostly following Sustrans route 1. There will be short stops at places of interest along the way and a chance to see and hear something about the East End now and in the past. Picnic in Victoria Park at about 1.00pm. Ride back to Greenwich afterwards or make your own way home.
