Petition to Restore the Cable Street Cycling Facility

We the undersigned urge the Department for Transport and the London Borough of Tower Hamlets to restore the Cable Street cycle track to the excellent facility it was before 'give way' markings addressing cyclists were added.

Far from making the track safer, these markings increase danger to cyclists because motor vehicles from side streets approaching Cable Street now stop ON the cycle track rather than BEFORE it. Cycling is now relegated to a second-class way of getting about, on a facility dedicated to cycling!

These new markings reinforce the mistaken conception that cycling is a dangerous activity and that cyclists must make up for the insufficient driving standards of motorists.
