Easy/moderate, approx 40 miles, parkland paths, towpath,trails and roads: St Johns Wood, West Finchley via Queens Park, Kilburn, Cricklewood and Brent Cross. Cockfosters for lunch. Time permitting, an optional circuit of Trent Park, Lea Navigation back via Enfield. Route arranged by Ken Peters.

Join the Wheelers for their annual New Year's Social. Celebrate the start of what will hopefully be another successful and enjoyable year of cycling in and around Tower Hamlets with the Wheelers!
Meet 7.30pm at Dhaka Biryani, a Bengali Cafe with a fixed price menu of £10 per head, 50/50 meat & veggie options. Feel free to bring your own alcohol.

It's the first birthday of the "new" Wheelers workshop! Over the past year, loads of bikes have been fixed, fine tuned or just cleaned, handy maintenance advice and tips passed on, and many new faces introduced to the Wheelers. It's always a social event so come along to this one, with your bike of course, and join in.
There will be a special talk held on "cycle touring" during this workshop. Start time and further details tba.

We will have an info stall at Age Concern's "Living Well Ageing Well" event to be held at Oxford House, 10am-3pm.

- Wheelers AGM & Social
As well as the formal matters of the AGM, we intend the evening to be a social occasion which hopefully will entice you to come along, meet the Wheelers and who knows, may be join in with what we've got planned.
We have arranged for two special guests to join us:
* Philip Loy: Cycling Development Officer of the London Cycling Campaign and co-ordinator of Lambeth Cyclists.
* Patrick Field: Founder of the London School of Cycling (where many of our bike buddy scheme members get their training), 'founding member' of the LCC, inaugurator of the legendary Dunwich Dynamo, competitor of Paris-Brest-Paris race, author of 'Breathing Spaces' and 'Get Lost' the first cycling guide books to greater London of the modern era and writer for many national cycling magazines.

- Saturday, 22nd May
- Easy RIDE: Brixton to Hertfordshire
Join Lambeth Cyclists and WDS for an easy paced 30 mile ride through the countryside.
The ride will start in Brixton but will do a stop-off on the Green Bridge, Mile End Park [map], at 11-11:15am to pick up people from East London.
The ride will then continue heading north along the Sustrans Lea Valley path, ending up in Cuffley, Hertfordshire by 3pm, in time for some free food and drink! Mostly off-road except the start and the end - an ideal ride for less experienced cyclists.
You can take your bike on the train back into London to Kings Cross. It's then pretty much all the way on the canal back to various locations in Tower Hamlets.

110km (~70 miles) ride around the Hertfordshire lanes, including a couple of stop-offs to take in, as the ride title suggests, opposite ends of the culture spectrum. There will also be an afternoon tea and cake stop.

Easy 12 mile ride to the Ace Cafe, Stonebridge Park - the popular haunt of motorcycle enthusiasts. Good and reasonably priced food awaits you at the destination. Thursday night is "Italian Bike" night therefore, if you arrive on an Italian bike you can claim a free pasta meal (this could be contentious but we'll see) - so come on your Bianchi's and Colnago's!

- Easy RIDE: Christmas Lights Ride & Carol Service
Meet upon the Green Bridge [map] to be ready to leave at 4.30pm for an hour's easy ride around the illuminated winter wonderland that is Tower Hamlets at Christmas. We will finish up at St Johns on Bethnal Green and join in the carol service at 6pm, eat mince pies and sup mulled wine.
We have been given permission to bring the bikes into the church - Fr Alan Green the rector, himself a member of Wheelers and past participant of the Beigel Race adds: "Bicycles should certainly not remain outside (I am sure there were oxen, asses and bicycles in that stable...)"

- RIDE: Headcorn Circle Ride
A fast 30 mile ride round a circular route from Headcorn in Kent via Paddock Wood, with optional couple of short hills, or mainly flat route. The route is quiet lanes with few cars, the route prints from the map onto A4, the plan being to give maps out with instructions at the beginning, so everyone can go at their own pace.
Should take less than two hours, with option to do it again :-) or stop for lunch.

Easy paced ride along the Regents Canal and Grand Union Canal to the Ace Cafe at Stonebridge Park for lunch with a stop at Camden Market for coffee and post-Christmas shop if it takes your fancy. We shall return by train to Euston or Hackney Central. Meet 11am on TOP the Green Bridge in Mile End Park [map].
