New Year's Social
Join the Wheelers for their annual New Year's Social. Celebrate the start of what will hopefully be another successful and enjoyable year of cycling in and around Tower Hamlets with the Wheelers!
Meet 7.00pm at Dhaka Biryani, a Bengali Cafe for a fixed price 3-course menu of £12 per head. Feel free to bring your own alcohol. As usual there will be prizegivings, a quiz of some kind and this year a special guest speaker.

Easy RIDE: Up the Lee Valley to Waltham Abbey
We will join up with a Sustrans Rangers Lee Valley ride, Waltham Forest LCC will be tagging along too. We'll be aiming to meet them at the Springfield Cafe at 11am. The destination will then be Waltham Abbey (about 20 miles) but you can drop out and head back when you like or catch a train. The pace will be nice 'n' easy as the rangers will be wanting to stop and discuss routes etc.

Following the formal matters of the AGM, the evening will be a social occasion which hopefully will entice you to come along, meet the Wheelers and who knows, may be join in with what we get up to.

Wheelers Wide Ride
Gary's coast to coast tour across England and Wales, from the most westerly point of Wales to the most easterly point of England, taking in Meriden the centre of England.

Using some B&B's but mostly YHA accommodation spaced fairly evenly across the countries I am guessing that costs could be as low as £150 for accommodation. I already have a fair bit of interest in this, so if it looks good to you, contact me via email or 020 7265 9095.

Easyish RIDE: Faversham-Whitstable
Easyish ride from Faversham-Whitstable for oysters and beach for swim, then crab and winckle line to Canterbury for a wooded track ride back to Faversham.
The ride will be led by local Dave and his young daughter in tow until Canterbury, then by myself. Distance will be about 30 miles. There are stations along route if needed or if you decide to shop at Canterbury.

RIDE: 13th Dunwich Dynamo
Set off at 9pm with over 200 others for an overnight ride of 120 miles to Dunwich on the Suffolk coast. Full details on this Dunwich Dynamo FAQ page.

Several Wheelers took up the challenge in 2004 & 2003 and had a great time. Many will be up for it again - are you?!

Return Transport
Barry Mason is again hiring coaches for the trip back (see link above) but to ease the crowd slightly and to make a quicker getaway us Wheelers have also hired a minibus and trailer to get up to 16 people back. (This was recently used to get the 'Wide Riders' back from Lowestoft.)

WHEELERS MINIBUS IS NOW FULL but you can still buy a coach ticket instead.

Tickets for the Wheelers minibus return journey cost £24.00

RIDE: Kent 140 miler
Distance: 50-100-140 miles. Picturesque and quiet lanes. Undulating for first 45 miles. The ride will be from Tower Hamlets via Greenwich, over North Downs into Kent, heading towards Walland Marshes and then the coast up from Rye to Canterbury. Train back to London Bridge.
People are welcome if they want to do the first 50 miles to the pub stop at Yalding at opening 12:00pm, but you may suprise yourself if you continue on as the following 60 miles will be quite flat, passing stations on route if you feel you need to opt out - or stay with us for the full 140 to Canterbury.

Easy RIDE: Ace Cafe
Easy 12 mile ride to the Ace Cafe, Stonebridge Park - the popular haunt of motorcycle enthusiasts. Good and reasonably priced food awaits you at the destination. The evening we are going on is Italian bike night therefore, if you arrive on an Italian bike (Bianchi, Colonago etc.) you can claim a free pasta meal - perhaps!

Easy RIDE: Eastway-Lea Valley
We're joining up with a Pedal Power session - the cycling club for adults with learning disabilities. We've been helping them recently with funding via our Bike Buddy scheme.
We'll ride along the canals to Eastway and then lead some of the group on a short ride up the Lea Valley. There'll also be a stop off for a snack at the Springfield Marina cafe at some point. Then back to Eastway to join up with the main Pedal Power session from 2pm for some leisurely biking round the circuit. This promises to be a great social event.

Sunday, 18th September
RIDE: Churches and Teas
A ride into Hertfordshire countryside heading for the lovely church in Upshire for tea. Total round trip distance of 120km (75 miles) with options for completing shorter distances. Just ride until lunch, choose a shorter afternoon section or join the ride after lunch. Plenty of stations along the route where you can join/leave the ride. There will also be a morning coffee stop at Epping so you can join/leave there too.

Easy RIDE: Last Afterworker
As the nights draw in, time for our last easy after-work ride around the borough's waterways, parks and quiet streets for a couple of hours.
To add to the occasion, we're having a "glamour" theme to the ride - dress up, wear a cool hat, decorate your bike - whatever you like, if you want to join in feel free. And if you don't then come to the ride anyway and laugh at the rest of us!
Followed by "end of summer" social in a local pub from 9pm.
Don't forget your lights!

Faster training ride of about 35 miles. The route will go via Enfield and Barnet.

Easy RIDE: Cuckoo Trail
About 30 easy miles, starts and ends in Polegate, East Sussex near Eastbourne. From Polegate we meander up the cuckoo trail an old railway track to Horam for coffee. Then take lanes across the Weald to Berwick, with Firle Beacon on the South Downs firmly in view - Berwick Tavern a possible lunch spot. We then ride down the Cuckmere valley to the beach at Cuckmere Haven and possible swim if warm and the tide is in. The last part of the ride is off road through Friston Forest back to Polegate.
Jane will be leading and will meet all at Polegate at 11.15.
Meet at 8:45am on top of the Green Bridge [map] to ride to Victoria Station to catch the 9:47am train. Steve (07951 797845) will lead to the station.

Easy RIDE: Olympic Circle Ride
The Newham LCC is getting back on its feet - join them for a circular ride around the borough of Newham to explore the many pleasant cycle routes we have in the area.
They'll start at East Ham Central Park for coffee, cycle up the Greenway to Stratford, down the Lea River, through the Royal Docks, then back up to Central Park.
You can join in for all or part of the way! Children welcome if supervised by a parent or guardian.
Meet at 10.30am at the cafe in Central Park for a coffee before the ride start at 11.00am. Contact details and map.

RIDE: Ride of the Fallen Leaves
A ride organised by the Dulwich Paragon cycling club and Mosquito Bikes. Two quite testing routes will be fully signposted one 120km (75 miles) the other 80km (50 miles). It being an "organised" ride there is an entry fee of £15 on the day or £12 in advance. There is also the option to get sponsorship for your efforts with all proceeds going to The Lavendar Trust. Wheelers Autumn Chilterns Weekend Away
A long weekend cycling to, around and maybe even back from the Chilterns, staying at Jordans YH. Accommodation fully booked but join in on individual day rides, see below.

RIDE: Canal Ride to Jordans
Ride along the Regent's and Grand Union canals to Harefield, then a few miles on road to finish up at Jordans Youth Hostel, Buckinghamshire. Estimated distance about 50 miles. Those not staying for the weekend will easily be able to catch a train back.

Pedal Power Sponsored Bike Ride
Support disability cycling and test your endurance!
Pedal Power is hosting a sponsored cycle ride at Eastway Cycle Circuit.
Family Friendly Event - Come and meet our riders, enjoy our home made café food, make some new friends and raise some money to help us buy new bikes so we can include more disabled people.
Ride lasts from 12.00-4:00pm

Easy RIDE: Christmas Lights & Carols by Candlelight Ride
Enjoy Wheelers' annual sedate tour of the borough's festive decorations searching out the best of the illuminated winter wonderland that is Tower Hamlets at Christmas. The ride will end at Hawksmoor's splendid St Anne's Church, Limehouse for Carols by Candlelight at 7.30pm. We will then no doubt visit the Grapes on Narrow Street. Dress warm, and bring your best voice.
