We have booked Palace Farm Hostel near Faversham for the weekend. Friday ride out there (all the way from London or train assisted) for those that can get the day off, then at least two, possibly three different rides on Saturday and Sunday - the shorter/shortest probably around the 35-40 mile mark, maybe with some sightseeing, and the longer one(s) around 50-60 miles or maybe more if anyone is really keen.
Cost for bed, breakfast and one communally cooked evening meal should be around £50. Numbers are limited and our last weekend away had a waiting list so book your place now.

Monday (Easter), 13th April
Easy RIDE: Lee Valley/Epping Forest/Gunpowder Park
Head off up the Lee Valley to explore some fairly new sections of the national cycle route north of Waltham Abbey. Up to Enfield and Gunpowder Park, then towards Nazeing and back to the river near Broxbourne. We might then make a quick detour to see the remains of the Rye House gatehouse. Then on to Ware and maybe Hertford depending on the weather and how fast we've been going.
You can take a train back to London or Tottenham or Hackney from there, or cycle back if you are feeling energetic. Plenty of earlier drop out points for trains back if you just want to join for the morning. Train back to Hackney/Tottenham Hale/Liverpool Street about £7-8 (half price with a groupsave deal).
We'll probably go to the Lee Valley Park Farm cafe or somewhere similar for lunch, but you can bring your own and find a picnic spot if you prefer.
Suitable for any bike as long as you don't mind mildly off-road cycle paths and towpaths, and mostly traffic free. From Mile End to Hertford is 30 miles so this ride can be any distance between about 15 and 50+ miles depending on what outbound and return options you take.
Meet at 9.00am on top of the Green Bridge, Mile End Park [map].

Find out how to efficiently lock your bike!
Many stolen bicycles are recovered by the police but tracing who it belongs to is often impossible. A registered bike makes it easier to reunite it with its owner.

Moderate RIDE: Beautiful Villages of Suffolk Ride
Join us for quite possibly your best day out this summer! Moderate paced 50 mile ride on quiet country roads, taking a train to the start at Marks Tey. Passing the Colne Valley in Essex, before lunch at the picture-postcard village of Cavendish. Then on to Lavenham, probably the most beautiful village in Suffolk, with its crooked timber framed buildings from the 14th & 15th centuries. Unique within the UK, it is the finest surviving English medieval town. Plenty of time here for tea in a real Tudor hall, and a good look round. Finishing the afternoon on shady cross-country lanes to Dedham Vale, as painted by Constable, with a chance for more tea before taking the train back from Manningtree.
Meet at 8.55am at Liverpool St Station for 9.18 departure, buying a cheap day return for Manningtree. The normal fare is £21 but we can reduce this with Group Savers or Network cards. (Alternatively, catch the train at 9.25 from Stratford.)

Moderate RIDE: Brighton Seaside Ride
Previously advertised as "Spa Valley railway" and then as "Somewhere out of London" I can now confirm that this will be a ride to Brighton so we can finish with a paddle (or a swim if you prefer) in the lovely English Channel.
Two options - first is to take the train out to East Croydon, from there it is about 48 miles to Brighton, alternatively cycle to East Croydon which gives a total distance of about 60 miles from Tower Hamlets. We will train it back from Brighton at the end of the day. Train cost approx £17 but can be halved if we can get 4 for 2 group save tickets.
Meet at London Bridge station outside the ticket office at 09.15 to catch the 09.41 train to Croydon, or meet at 09.45 at East Croydon station. If you want to cycle out let me know and we might be able to arrange a convoy - although this will be down main roads via Greenwich, Lewisham, Catford, Beckenham etc at a fastish pace.
The main ride will be at a moderate pace with a planned lunch stop at Wakehurst Place (warning - this is 25 miles into the ride so also bring snacks and drinks to keep you going that far - we'll stop for a breather somewhere suitable), and we expect to get into Brighton around 16.30 where we can have tea/ice cream/chips etc. Mostly lanes and B roads but you need to be prepared for some traffic especially leaving Croydon and going into Brighton.
And the answers to the two questions you haven't asked yet - yes we will be going up Ditchling Beacon and no it's not a problem if you walk up, we will pause at the top to admire the view anyway.
If you are planning on coming along if you can let me know in advance then that might help with train ticket purchasing but it's not essential.

RIDE: Weekend away in Essex/Suffolk
We have booked the Stour Valley bunkhouse near Manningtree for our exclusive use. The bunkhouse is only about 3 miles from Manningtree station so it's easy enough to get there after work on Friday, although for those that can get the day off work we'll have an all day ride there. There is a nearby pub (10 mins' walk from the bunkhouse) which does food so most of us will eat there on Friday. On Saturday we will offer a choice of rides - probably one of about 45-60 miles and one of 30-40 to suit different energy and ability levels, but all guaranteed to work up an appetite for a big communal meal in the evening. On Sunday due to engineering work we have to ride 30 miles to Marks Tey to catch a train back to London. There will be a longer ride option that day as well.
Cost for bed, breakfast and one communally cooked evening meal max £55.
Contact on 07967 139491 for more details and to book a place.
