In spite of not having a regular newsletter, things are still happening in the borough. We now have a presence at the Mile End Park Trust meetings, and our contact there is working towards resolving he dispute over those awkward speed bumps laid across the park.
You may have noticed that things are changin at last along the Mile End Road, advanced stop lines and a few furlongs of green paint are just the beginning - Tower Hill is starting to look slightly more non-motor use firendly directly because of THLCC lobbying. And the traffic on the Aldgate gyratory will be slowed (very slightly) and surface pedestrian crossings will appear there, along with advanced stop lines.
We now have a new mayor who is cycling sympathetic and an elected GLA member who is a regular cyclist as well as a former Great Beigal Race winner. In the near future there wil be a massive impact on the borough from the traffic charging scheme, meaning that this is not the time to be inactive.
To discuss these issues, the future (or not) of a newsletter and a major road closure for car free day in September I have booked a meeting room at the Docklands Sailing Centre, this is a pleasant venue, with a bar where we can have a drink afterwards. Gwyn Owen, our borough cycling officer, will attend and Paula Smith of the LCC will be on hand to help.
Look forward to seeing you there!
