The Great Bagel race returns!

The Great Bagel Challenge is being held by the Tower Hamlets Wheelers (1) on Saturday 15th June, a 'race' between different forms of transport to see who can shift their precious bagel the fastest! (2)

Previous years have seen a genuine East End pony and trap, a cycle rickshaw, a disability minibus, the Mayor's limo, a black cab and mounted police officers take up the Challenge... and the winner is not what you'd expect!

East London GLA rep Cllr John Biggs has agreed to take part on his bicycle: "I'm looking forward to supporting the Wheelers - and to a journey that'll be fun for a change!"

This year the Challenge kick-starts Bike Week, the national celebration of all things pedal-powered (3). The route starts in Island Gardens at the tip of the Isle of Dogs and traverses Tower Hamlets to end at the Sundial Centre, Shipton Street in the north-west corner of the borough.

Owen Pearson, Wheelers Co-ordinator says: "Fuelled by a true East End delicacy, this is a great opportunity to demonstrate how the car may not be the quickest way from A to B."

The Council have kindly pledged their support and will be supplying the all-important bagels!

PLEASE NOTE: ALL WHEELERS ACTIVITIES ARE "WORLD CUP FRIENDLY" - WE GUARANTEE NO CLASHES! We have specifically arranged all our Bike Week events to fit round the matches.
