East End 'Bicycle Bus' for Tube strike victims broadcast over London!
Local cycling campaign group the Tower Hamlets Wheelers (1) provided a
'bicycle bus' cycling escort service on the second Tube strike on Wednesday
2nd October (2), gaining media coverage on BBC London radio's Danny Baker
morning show with 300,000 listeners and later that evening on BBC London TV
news with 3 million viewers.
"We're really proud that even though we are such a small voluntary local
East End group we gained so much London-wide media exposure to promote
cycling on Tube strike days," says Owen Pearson, Wheelers co-ordinator. "We
hope that Tube users will remember our 'bicycle bus' service and join in if
there is another strike."
Owen continues, "Even if there isn't another strike, if Tube users or any
people from the East End who currently do not cycle to work are inspired to
get on their bike, but would like some help getting started, we would love
to hear from you."

Photo opportunity: The biggest Bicycle Bus will be departing from the Green
Bridge, Mile End Park at 12:30pm. Other opportunities are at the three
earlier route starts - see note 4 below.
