Tower Hamlets Wheelers NEWS RELEASE 26 March 2003
EMBARGOED until 00.01 hours 29.03.03 Ref THW09Workshop260303
PHOTO OPPORTUNITY: John Biggs A.M. to attend launch of first new Wheelers Workshop
Saturday 29th March 11am - 3pm; John Biggs will attend 11:30am - 12:15pm
At 'the Boxing Club', Limehouse Town Hall, 646 Commercial Road
The Tower Hamlets Wheelers (1) would like to invite you to the launch of the
Wheelers Workshop, a self-help bicycle maintenance workshop hosted by the
Boxing Club, an arts group based at Limehouse Town Hall, for Wheelers
members initially, and hopefully - in time - a facility for the general
public in Tower Hamlets.
John Biggs A.M., chair of the GLA Transport Committee and assembly member
for East London and the City will be attending for a photo-shoot, bringing
his bike for a check-over.
Please do not publicise this in advance; we may not be able to deal with
many members of the public who may turn up and expect a free service for
their bikes - the emphasis is on 'self-help'!
Many thanks.

Notes
(1) The Tower Hamlets Wheelers is the local cycle action group in the east
London Borough of Tower Hamlets, campaigning for better cycling facilities
and encouraging more people to cycle Ð for health, the environment and for
London. The Wheelers are affiliated to the London Cycling Campaign, the
largest urban cycling campaign in the world.
(2) Directions
The workshop has plenty of room to park bikes, and National Cycle Network
route 1 passes right by the hall: along Salmon Lane, crossing Commercial
Road and along Newell Street. Nearest public transport is Limehouse or
Westferry DLR, Limehouse national rail (C2C from Fenchurch Street or West
Ham) or buses 15, 115, 395 or D3 along Commercial Road, or 277, D6 or D7
along nearby Burdett Road. We are obviously trying to encourage people NOT
to drive to this event!
