WAY TO GO BY BIKE!

Local cycle action group the Tower Hamlets Wheelers (1) will be participating in Transport for London's "Way to go!" travel awareness week (2) 16-22 September. On Thursday, 18 September there will be a series of guided commuter rides from various places around London into central London. Transport for London will provide free cyclists breakfasts at Victoria, Covent Garden and Broadgate in the City, at the end of the rides.

Experienced cyclists will meet those who would like to give cycle commuting a go and then cycle with them into town, showing them how easy it can be. Using routes that avoid most of the busy commuter traffic, these rides will show that cycling to work is something anyone can do.

Wheelers Co-ordinator, Owen Pearson asks "Have you ever considered commuting on your bike? Why not try riding to work with us?! Tower Hamlets Wheelers will help you to cycle safely into London."

Meeting on top of the Green Bridge, Mile End Park, Mile End Road at 8.00am the Wheelers will ride at an easy pace on a nice route, avoiding busy roads, crowded trains and the congestion charge, arriving at Broadgate at around 8:45am for a free breakfast.

Owen says "You'll be surprised how far we can get into central London without using too many main roads. This is an opportunity to meet local cyclists and enjoy your first experience of cycle commuting. Beginners are most welcome."

This event links in with the London Borough of Tower Hamlets public launch of their own travel awareness campaign, 'good going' (3) as well as with the Wheelers Bike Buddy and Cycle Training scheme (4). Contact Owen Pearson at bikebuddy@towerhamletswheelers.org.uk for more information about this ride and the scheme as a whole.
