Monthly Meeting Minutes

Wednesday, 6 May 2009 7.30pm
Held at St Margaret's House, 17 Old Ford Road.

1. LBTH Planning Consultations

Desire to get informed of all planning applications whether road, residential, commercial. Sam suggests contacting Duncan Brown at LBTH.

Healthy Planning strand of Healthy Town status - Sam suggests also contacting Chris Lovitt, Tim Madeline PCT to take part in the planning process and not just reacting to schemes.

Medium term create Wheelers planning manifesto.

ACTION: David T to contact Duncan Brown
        Rob to contact Margaret Cooper to find best contact in Highways
        Steve to talk with Chris Lovitt


2. LBTH Cycling Update - Sam Margolis

Meath Gardens Bridge - work has begun for Connect2 bridge across Regents' Canal.  Estimated completion date August 2009.

Healthy Borough Programme
LBTH producing new Cycling Strategy - will be out for consultation during the summer.

One key action is to audit of all cycle routes.  Set up volunteer ranger system based on LAP areas to assess routes: Report back on defects, problems, suggested new routes etc.  Programme funding to last at least 2 years.  Sam would welcome all ideas for structuring the ranger set up.

ACTION: Rob to compile our thoughts to send to Sam by 31 May.

Isle of Dogs Cycling Scheme
Background - Modal share 2001 census: Isle of Dogs 1.1%, Tower Hamlets 1.5%, Inner London 2.1%
Isle of Dogs therefore an initial target to increase cycling.  BikeIt project now well established in all schools on Isle of Dogs.  Now working with the parents - family cycle project to be set up at Cubitt School, cycle training sessions for parents have begun.

Sat 13 June : Launch event of family cycle training project.  Request for Wheelers to attend, provide Dr Bike etc.

Community Led Grants
LBTH giving out grants for active travel project.  Launch event on Mon 11 May 2.30-5pm at Ecology Centre.  Deadline for submissions early June.

ACTION: Steve and Gerry to try and attend launch event
               Rob to submit proposal for Movers & Shakers project

Sam keen to assist with Movers & Shalers project and will look into ways he can help out if funding not gained via these grants.

Wed 17 : Chicken Run Ride

Fri 19 : Glamour Ride
Sat 20 : Newham Olympic Ride - tie in with Cycling for Health, start in Victoria Park
Sun 21 : 2am Midsummer Madness Ride
Sun 21 : Picnic ride - short ride ending in a park

Publicity - Sam will try to publicise our events in East End Life for us once we have finalised details.

Gerry: Bike ownership checking taking place in Hackney by the police - link between crimes being committed using stolen bikes.

Steve: Do bike shops record who bikes are sold to referencing frame number?  Could go then straight onto immobilise.com.

Workshop liability insurance
ACTION: David T to contact LCC about this ongoing issue

Greenwich Tunnel Closure meeting
Suggestions to put forward: Free ferry, discounted Hilton ferry, one-way working, access on DLR (Greenwich-Mudchute)
ACTION: Steve to attend meeting with Greenwich Council, 12 May at 6.30pm
