Monthly Meeting Minutes

1. Workshop

Next one on 19th November.  Usuals will be available.  Might be chilly for the next few months as the building's roof is being replaced.

Confirmed that we will hold a workshop in December on the 17th.

ACTION: Gerry to invite local cycling paramedics to Vesuvio's cafe afterwards (they're often seen there anyway).



2. Rides

Bob's ride last Saturday to Erith and back got a few punters along - all went well and thanks to him for leading his first ride.

12 November: Dangerous Junctions ride - feeder ride leaving from the Green Bridge to Oval.
19 November: Sustrans Olympic Ride



3. CS2 Bow Roundabout

Discussion about the lack of facilities for pedestrians and cyclist raised again by the recent tradegy.  

Proposed to write to local MPs and councillors on the topic "What are you doing to protect your residents from inadequecies of TfL cycle superhighway schemes?"

ACTION: David T to draft a letter.



4. Isle of Dogs councillors meeting

Richard met with the three Conservative councillors on the Isle of Dogs on 2 December.  He will be producing a write up for newsletter.

5. Jenny Jones visit

Gerry, David T and Owen meet with Jenny Jones, Green Party London Assembly member on morning of 19 October as part of her tour of the boroughs.  Local issues passed on.

ACTION: Owen to draft a reply to her.



6. Newsletter

Bob organising the collation of the articles.

ACTION: Bob to carry on collating submitting to Rob this Friday, 11th.
ACTION: Rob to drop all the content in and publish in time for workshop on 19th.

Owen reports that the website now has a news section.  

ACTION: Owen to distribute "how to add news to the website" to interested news editors.



7. Railings & cycle parking

David T raises issues of LBTH removing railings across the borough.  This is welcomed on a calming and safety front although removes places to lock our bikes!

Gerry says she has previously raised this issue Margaret Cooper.

8. Gerry

Gerry nominated for LCC Campaigner of the Year award although she has graciously declined but we would like to note it here.



9. Cyclist and pedestrians conflict

In correspondence with LBTH, Gerry has been made aware of increasing reports of cyclist and pedestrians conflict at various locations around the borough e.g. Cable Street (Watney St-Sutton St), western end of Roman Road.

Living Streets proving impossible to contact.

ACTION: Gerry to contact someone to facilitate a formal introduction with Living Streets.



10. Fieldgate Cycling Project

Gerry, Annabel and Alex attended the end of project event.  Well done to Sarah for running a successful project.  Gerry discussed how to help keep the good work going.  Suggestions of involving the participants with the Tower Hamlets Cycling Club rides.



11. AOB

Keith reports there is possibly a change of hands at the bike shop at 147 Hackney Road - "The Commuters Bike Shop".  Gerry to investigate.

Keith notes there was a suggestion at the last AGM that the borough's cycling groups were brought together via a cycling forum facilitated by the council.


Meeting ended at 9.00pm
