1. | LCN budget cuts | |
Send reminder to email group about writing to John Biggs and councillors concerning the proposed Transport for London London Cycle Network budget cuts. | Owen
Wheelers need to find out the LCN routes in Tower Hamlets that would be affected by the above cuts. Suggestion to contact Gwyn Owen in the Council Transport Section to obtain maps of existing and proposed LCN routes. | Alix
2. | Contacting Members | |
Owen would like to contact all the borough members to invite them to get more involved in the Wheelers activities. Tom suggested sending them all Christmas card which was immediately agreed upon. Eventually decided that the card would be for New Year and would include an invite to a Wheelers meal in January as well detailing Wheelers, TfL, Council etc. contacts. | Gary
Owen to continue Gary's routine of sending a letter of introduction to new borough members. | Owen
3. | Events | |
Monthly Wheelers rides continuing on the first Saturday of every month. Alex is planning a trip to the Lea Valley/Epping Forest for 1 December, Alix will arrange one for 5 January. | Alex
It was decided to hold a 'New Years' meal on 10 January at a local Chinese restaurant. | Alex
Festival of Cycling 2002: Ideas for Wheelers events during Bike week in June were discussed including: Cycling breakfast, a history ride, Beigal race, ride to Eastway circuit (if last year's event is to be repeated).
Other social events suggested were a day trip to the recumbents shop in South London. Also a YHA weekend. These would be planned for Spring at the earliest.
4. | Campaigning Issues | |
Carry out a survey of borough members to find their three worst gripes about cycling in Tower Hamlets. This will be announced in the next newsletter and a form added to the website. | Alix
Proposed to hold a borough cycle count - one in winter and one in summer. It was decided the first one should coincide with the meal on 10 January. Gary suggested that the LCC office should be contacted for advice. | Alex
5. | Newsletter | |
Contents of the next issue were discussed which will include much of the above topics e.g. gripes survey, MP, councillor, Streetline etc. contacts. Also guidance notes on writing 'gripe letters' to the council etc. would possibly be included. | Alix
