Notes from Wheelers Meeting held on 11 August 2004
in Victoria Park, near Bonner Hall Bridge entrance

1. Introductions
Everyone said hello.
2. Matters arising from last meeting, 14 July 2004
All outstanding matters to be covered in following items.
3. Finances
Balance stands at just over £8000. Invoices recently received from Cycle Training and London School of Cycling.
Dave provided LCC with requested accounts/funding details to pass onto their auditors. They also require a projected budget.
ACTIONS:
Dave and Owen to come up with a budget.
4. Bike Buddy & Cycle Training Scheme
Another five have joined the scheme since the last meeting, three of them being men which goes against the trend.
Jagonari Centre: finding bikes for the women to use for their training is proving a problem.
ACTIONS:
Owen to make a start on follow-up questionnaire to assess usefulness of scheme, progress of scheme members etc.
Owen to talk with YAUK.
Gary to talk with Bicycle Magic.
5. Workshop & Bike Re-Cycling
Workshop:
July's workshop had the largest attendance yet - 16 punters.
The next workshop is on 28 August 2004. Only Owen of the regulars is around.
ACTIONS:
Owen to ask for volunteers to help out on 28th.
Owen/someone?! to produce labels advertising the Wheelers workshop to stick on the back of our promotional postcards.
Bike Re-Cycling:
Bike build day resulted in 4 bikes being sold. Money raised to be donated to the CTC's Cyclists' Defence Fund via the Wheelers.
ACTIONS:
Gary/Owen to arrange for money to be sent to CDF.
6. Campaigns
Trading of stolen bikes at Brick Lane: Colin gave an update. The template letter is on the website and the campaign is ready to be launched. Some of the Hackney cycle police squad will be attending Hackney LCC's September meeting - would be useful to hear their side of things.
ACTIONS:
Colin to launch campaign via egroup. Owen to copy to other LCC egroups.
Wheelers to attend Hackney LCC meeting on 1 September.
Victoria Park barrier gates: Owen's action from last meeting is carried forward.
ACTIONS:
Owen to chase LBTH to ask why they were installed, who authorised the installation and how to get them removed.
7. Borough Traffic Schemes
Vallance Road/Hanbury Street new cycle facilities: No response from the LBTH yet.
ACTIONS:
Gary and Owen to follow up.
Cable Street area: LBTH are proposing a large 20mph zone north and south of Cable Street.
ACTIONS:
Owen to send response to LBTH supporting this scheme.
Tredegar Street: Calming scheme
ACTIONS:
Owen to send response to LBTH supporting this scheme with exception of guardrails still be used around all the junctions.
8. Newsletter, Media & Website
Newsletter:
Next newsletter due by 17 September for inclusion in London Cyclist. Latest newsletters have not yet been sent to the councillors.
ACTIONS:
Carol and Gary/Steve to produce newsletter.
Carol to deliver newsletters to Town Hall.
Website:
Owen has renewed hosting.
9. Rides, Events & Socials
Rides programme continuing nicely.
Events coming up: Gary's winter weekend away in November is going ahead and deposit has now been paid to YHA.
