Record Breaking Breakfast Ride
31 May 2009

This one broke two records - firstly number of riders (12 - the most we've ever had) and secondly the temperature and weather (fabulous sun and warmth - compare with the ride of 1st Feb!). We started off going south down through Mile End Park and then via the canal to Limehouse basin, then along the Limehouse Cut and along the floating towpath section to the River Lee at Bow Locks. The last time we came this way we went up to Stratford High Street and then along the Greenway, but this time with the route diversions in place, we decided to continue along the Lee towpath from Three Mills all the way to Springfield Marina. The blue fence bordering the Olympic site is now mostly down, replaced by the high electric fence. It does let you see in I suppose, but it's not really a pretty sight.

We had breakfast sitting in the sun outside the newly refurbished and re-opened Riverside cafe - highly recommended, still good value and with that much appreciated option of choosing which items you want for your breakfast. From the comments round the table, the scrambled eggs were particularly good.

To return to Mile End we crossed the river and cycled down the East bank across Walthamstow Marshes, then picked up our outbound route as far as the Hertford Union canal, and then back through Victoria park. About 12 leisurely miles in total (probably not enough to burn off the breakfast really!)
