Breakfast Ride - wet and soggy
1 November 2009

Five intrepid riders met at the Green Bridge on a morning when strong winds and inches of rain had been promised. My excuse for this madness was that I had to be there as the ride leader, David's was that he had promised to show us a route to North London, and Gerry was presumably so pleased to be back on her bike that she wasn't going to be put off by the weather, which left two more brave souls one of whom confessed to not actually seeing or hearing a weather forecast!

A foray up to Highgate was ruled out as foolhardy so we settled for a very modest and short trip to Springfield marina cafe, with only a couple of detours to go the long way round Victoria Park and then through Fish Island. The rain went from light to medium and then finally to heavy as we crossed Walthamstow marshes.

We were the only customers in the cafe but that in no way spoiled enjoyment of the breakfast. We returned a slightly more direct way in rain that seemed to get heavier, or maybe that was just because it was now in our faces. By the time I got home my shoes were full of water, and the rest of me pretty soggy.

All in all though still nice to be out in the fresh air, hopefully better luck next month.
