Breakfast Ride
28 March 2010

After February's complete washout, it was great to have the numbers back to 12 again, especially considering that it was the day the clocks went forward, so one hour less in bed. As is often the case, the women proved better at getting up than the men, outnumbering them by 9 to 3.

Our route was westwards via Limehouse and the ornamental canal to Tower Bridge, then back eastwards along the south bank as far as Rotherhithe, where we turned inland to Southwark Park. We thought about having breakfast at the newly opened park café but it seemed just a bit too cold to sit outside (we'll go back later in the year) so we carried on through the park to emerge at the Wetherspoons pub at Surrey Quays. Not the most picturesque setting but cheap, hearty breakfasts sitting in the warm were very welcome.

To wear off all the consumed calories we continued to Greenwich via NCN4 and the riverside where possible. After a quick encounter at Cutty Sark gardens with Southwark and Greenwich cyclists (off to Eltham Palace), we returned to Mile End via the foot tunnel (no lifts working so a real calorie burner!) and the Isle of Dogs.
