Evening ride south of the river
24 September 2003

Thanks for a great night last night. The easy ride took me to places that I had not been before, which made it really interesting. The drink in the pub after was much needed.
Thanks again, I will try and make the next easy ride.
Fred

Yes, it was indeed another good meander around. Five of us set off as soon as our intrepid ride leader Steve arrived after belting from Battersea to the Green Bridge in 35 mins. Unfortunately, we travelled approximately 5 yards when Steve's front tyre deflated! No doubt a reaction to his speedy ride. So, after a quick inner tube change we set off south along the canal to Canary Riverside.

We all piled onto the Hilton Docklands ferry for the quick hop over to Rotherhithe. The light was fading fast as we rode off the pier through the Hilton reception (ooops) and set off to Canada Water via the pleasant park and canal routes. A quick stop at Decathlon and then we headed for the Thames path. Riding along the river, we had fantastic clear night views of Tower Bridge in front and Canary Wharf behind.

We had a break at Tower Bridge, checking to see what Mr Blaine was up to (not alot) before crossing over the river heading back east via St Katharine Docks and the Ornamental Canal through Wapping. Then it was along Narrow Street and back up north along the Regent's Canal. Timing it to perfection we arrived at the Crown pub on Old Ford Road at 9pm for, as Fred mentioned, some much needed refreshment.

As with every one of the evening rides this summer new routes and places to visit were discovered by all. Steve's computer reckoned he'd taken us on about a 10 mile trip.
