Liveable Streets Update
Barkantine
- Due to large amounts of construction taking place within the scheme’s area, parts of the scheme have had to be delayed in their implementation.
Wapping
- Improvements to Wapping Lane are continuing such as the widening of pavements.
- A pedestrian crossing opposite the station is to be installed to create a better facility for people walking.
Bethnal Green
- There is a meeting with residents towards the end of June to finalise plans for Arnold Circus
- Ropley Street, a consultation on the closure of the street will be taking place soon.
- See https://talk.towerhamlets.gov.uk/LSBethnalGreen for latest updates on the scheme including construction timelines.
Brick Lane
- The proposals were signed off at cabinet on the 28th May.
- Plans are to have parts of the scheme in place over the summer to help businesses make use of outdoor dining to aid recovery from COVID pandemic.
Shadwell
- We believe the public consultation should be coming out in the near future.
Old Ford West
- The proposals were signed off at cabinet on the 28th May.
Next scheme areas
- We understand that the next areas which will be looked as part of the Liveable Streets programme will be Mile End West, Teviot and Brownfield and Aberfeldy

Rides & Events
- We have held 2 after-work rides so far, one based around the Olympic Park and the other heading towards Cody Dock
- We are currently getting good numbers at our after work rides
- There doesn’t seem to be a central calendar on the LCC site which lists rides across all boroughs.
- Can we look to link our after-work rides up with Liveable Streets scheme areas? Perhaps look to host one around the Bethnal Green area once all work has been completed?
- We post any planned rides on our website here https://www.towerhamletswheelers.org.uk/diary
Workshop
- Limehouse Town Hall is happy for us to restart the workshop again on Saturday 19th June.
- You can find out more information about the workshop here, https://www.towerhamletswheelers.org.uk/workshop
- Upcoming dates for our workshop are posted here,
- https://www.towerhamletswheelers.org.uk/diary
Newsletter
- Julie has put together a first draft of what our digital quarterly newsletter could look like.
- We need to share the sign up page initially in order for people to subscribe to our quarterly newsletter.
- The newsletter is ready to go subject to the addition of any upcoming after-work rides.
- There is also a version of the quarterly newsletter which can be printed of on 1 sheet of A4 which can be used at events and the workshop.
Living Streets
- Progress has been made in setting up a borough group of Living Streets.
- A meeting is being set up with those who have expressed interest in leading on the group to discuss the finer details.
- It has been suggested that these monthly meetings should look to be held jointly with the new Living Streets group once set up.
St Margaret’s House
- St Margaret’s House has informed us that groups are making their plans to return to St Margaret’s House for meetings.
- It was noted that since holding the joint meetings via Zoom, we have been able to welcome individuals from different organisations to present as well as open the meetings up to more people.
- If we go back to face to face meetings, it would be useful to have a space with internet access and potentially a screen so that individuals can still join via Zoom and for sharing links/looking at documents etc.
AOB
- ACTION, Iain to email around a Doodle poll to see potential dates for a social meet up in a pub garden (restrictions allowing).
Next Meeting – Wednesday 14th July 2021, 7.30-9pm, The Cabin, St Margaret’s House, Old Ford Road, E2 9PL or via Zoom if lockdown is in place. Email or contact on social media to receive the invite link to the Zoom meeting.
