Ride to The Bow Floating Towpath

Tuesday, 23 August 2011 - 6:30pm - 8:30pm

Rescheduled from Thursday 18th when rain stopped play!

Afterworker ride along local canals to see and try the new Bow Floating Towpath that now connects the Thames to Hertford without interuption. Also includes a mystery destination "somewhere that Wheelers and as far as I'm aware no other LCC group has been to"

Leaving at 6.30pm promptly so try and get to the Green Bridge early. Don't forget to bring your lights. Refreshments afterwards in the Palm Tree, Mile End Park.

Please call if you're going to be late or would like to meet en route.

Ride difficulty:
Easy
Ride distance:
6 miles
Ride report:

Not too many takers for the pleasure of my company last night but 4 did join me on a slightly soggy ride to the Bow Floating Towpath. Nice construction but couldn't help thinking that it would have been better with a floating pontoon on the east side from 3 Mills to the underpass.

On our way to the Hackney Wick exit we met a bloke on a trike who was a purveyor of home made cake, the group couldn't help themselves and just had to purchase some.

Onto the tour of the Wick where there were groups of people running around trying to find various performances taken place in 'secret' warehouses on the industrial estates, 10 years ago they wouldn't have been seen dead anywhere near. Change indeed.

We didn't visit the secret location earlier because it was drizzling so with this in mind I intend to run this afterworker again next week in the hope that the weather would be better.

Watch this space.

Thanks to all those who attended

Rides information

Our rides are highlighted by "RIDE". You don't have to be a member to join in and we're also always looking for new ride ideas. Contact our Rides Co-ordinator for further information.

There is no need to register beforehand for a ride unless this is specifically stated, most rides are "turn up and go".

If you haven't ridden with us before please read our Ride Guidance Notes.

Please note that for train assisted rides we often cannot publish times until about 2 weeks beforehand because of the need to check engineering works. Also sometimes our ride leaders do have to change dates/times/routes at reasonably short notice. Generally this website will be up to date and also details will be sent out to our email groups, but if in doubt contact the ride leader or our rides co-ordinator to check arrangements.
