Christmas Day Ride
The now legendary Christmas Day bike ride, since 2002 organised by Southwark Cyclists, now being led by somebody new, with a slightly different route to previous years.
Cycle through a mostly deserted central London on Christmas day, with a stop or two maybe for hot drinks and mulled wine..
- Meet at 10am at the Cutty Sark Gardens, London SE10 9HT or
- OR at 11 am at the Southwark Needle, London SE1 2SY
Wheelers may also do a feeder ride from Brick Lane, if there's enough people. TBC.
We plan to cycle about 16 miles to get to Edgware Road, which will take about 2 hours. However, it should be quicker coming back as we will take a more direct route. If you want to, you can drop out along the way, but we expect that a 'hard core' will want to make it to Edgware Road, where there are many cafes open, and then a more direct route back.
Those wishing to come on the ride are asked to bring warm clothing, water, snacks, lights, basic tools and a spare inner tube in case you have a puncture (particularly important for this ride as there will no public transport on Christmas Day). Active parents are most welcome on the ride, provided that they are accompanied by at least one responsible child, and behave themselves. All should have at least basic road cycling experience.

Rides information
Our rides are highlighted by "RIDE". You don't have to be a member to join in and we're also always looking for new ride ideas. Contact our Rides Co-ordinator for further information.
There is no need to register beforehand for a ride unless this is specifically stated, most rides are "turn up and go".
If you haven't ridden with us before please read our Ride Guidance Notes.
Please note that for train assisted rides we often cannot publish times until about 2 weeks beforehand because of the need to check engineering works. Also sometimes our ride leaders do have to change dates/times/routes at reasonably short notice. Generally this website will be up to date and also details will be sent out to our email groups, but if in doubt contact the ride leader or our rides co-ordinator to check arrangements.
