About Tower Hamlets Wheelers
Who are the Tower Hamlets Wheelers?
We are a local cycling campaign group in the East End of London. Our main objectives are:
- to encourage more people to cycle
- improve conditions for cyclists
- to raise the profile of cycling in the East End
This involves bringing the issues to the attention of the local council and other authorities. We also run cycling community projects and organise social rides and events to bring cyclists in the area together.
Constitution & Equal Opportunities
Tower Hamlets Wheelers is run by our committee and governed by the following constitution and equal opportunities policy. Our group has been in existence for over 40 years and at present we have over 300 paid-up members as part of the London Cycling Campaign.
London Cycling Campaign
We are the local borough group affiliated to the London Cycling Campaign (LCC) - with over 10,000 members it is the world's largest urban campaign group. Over 300 of those members live in Tower Hamlets. Membership of the LCC isn't compulsory to be able to take part in Wheelers' activities but we recommend it. The larger the LCC membership, the larger the voice of cycle users in London. The membership benefits alone (3rd-party insurance, access to theft insurance deals, magazine etc.) are easily worth the subscription. Visit the LCC website for further details - you can join online now!
Monthly Meetings
We hold regular meetings on the second Wednesday of every month where we plan what we'll be up to. All are welcome and we are always looking for new volunteers to help out. Feel free to come along and share your cycling ideas.
Social Rides
Social rides are frequently organised with routes ranging from around the borough to journeys further afield to destinations such as Cambridge. Check the events & rides diary page for the latest dates.
Bicycle Maintenance Workshop
We also hold a bicycle workshop on the third Saturday of every month at Limehouse Town Hall. All are welcome to come along and give their bike the maintenance it deserves.
