Regent's Canal - consultation on towpath improvements

Submitted by dave on 14 March 2012

British Waterways are holding a consultation on ways of improving the Regent's canal towpath. Currently they are looking at the stretch between Danbury St and Sturt's Lock, which is in Islington, but they are interested in the views of all users, including those from Tower Hamlets.

Unfortunately, as the number of cyclists on the towpaths has increased, complaints to British Waterways about conflicts between pedestrians and cyclists have also increased, and BW are looking at ways of improving the situation. Their main focus is on encouraging responsible cycling - reasonable speeds, and consideration shown towards pedestrians. They are trying, as far as possible, to avoid measures such as adding speed bumps and chicanes - these are expensive, and make the towpath less pleasant to use. Read more about the Islington Towpath consultation or go direct to complete the survey now.
